Register for the support events organised by the ERC Club “CERCLe” (Aix Marseille Université and partners CNRS, Inserm, IRD, CEA et Ecole Centrale) for the ERC Starting and Consolidator Grant 2025 calls.

As part of the CERCle-MER support, three events for applicants from Aix Marseille perimeter wishing to apply to the ERC Starting and Consolidator Grant 2025 calls are organised on June 20, July 05 and September 13, 2024. Participants do not need to be currently employed by a research organisation in the Aix Marseille perimeter, but must apply to be hosted in one of its research institutes.

  • The ERC Starting Grant 2025 calls are open to researchers who have successfully defended their first PhD between January 1, 2018 and December 31, 2022 (inclusive).
  • ERC Consolidator Grant 2025 calls are open to researchers who have successfully defended their first PhD between January 1, 2013 and December 31, 2017 (inclusive).

Please note the eligibility periods can be extended beyond 7 and 12 years for certain situations. More information can be found in the ERC work programme.

First event - Online information session

The objective of this session will be to provide an introduction of the ERC Starting and Consolidator Grant 2025 rules, statistics and recommendations, along with an overview of the evaluation criteria, submission process, and ERC panels. The session will include sharing of experience from previous laureate(s) and panel member(s), pending availability. A Q&A time will be an opportunity for you to benefit from advice from different stakeholders and to ask any questions you may have.

Speakers: MER EU grants office staff & laureates/members of panels from Aix Marseille 
Target audience: Applicants and prospective applicants aiming to apply or engage in an application with a research institute in the Aix Marseille perimeter
Where: Online, mandatory registration (see online form on the right panel)
Language: English

The final programme and link for the online information session will be sent to all registered participants a few days before the session.

Second event - ERC Masterclass

In-person workshop showing the mechanics of writing an ERC project and the difference with other project types. Guided exercises with several project examples will bring out the elements that respond to the evaluation criteria. The session includes a panel discussion and a project pitch session with leading scientists from the Aix Marseille perimeter with experience in the ERC. The workshop also has training sessions on topics such as general structure of an application, evaluation process, budget, and CV, conducted by experts from the French NCP and MER.

Target audience: Applicants and prospective applicants engaged in an ERC application process for the 2025 or 2026 calls for Starting and Consolidator
Where: MER, Campus Centre, downtown Marseille, France
Language: English and French
Requirements: Participants must be engaged in an ERC Starting or Consolidator proposal preparation for an upcoming call
Number of places: Maximum 10 participants, mandatory registration (see on the right panel)
Selection: Based on pre-requirement conditions and eligibility to the call, number of places and registered participants, if need be, balance of disciplines, diversity aspects (equal opportunities), etc.

Third event - Writing workshop

In-person writing workshop where participants bring their own project proposals and ideas and learn to structure them in line with the ERC grant types.

When: 13 September 2024, 09h00-17h00, 1h for lunch break

Target audience: Applicants and prospective applicants engaged in an ERC application process for the 2025 or 2026 calls for Starting and Consolidator
Where: MER, Campus Centre, downtown Marseille, France
Language: English and French
Requirements: Participants are required to have a well drafted idea and proposal, to be engaged in an application process to an ERC Starting or Consolidator upcoming call, to be eligible to that call, and to have sent the required written documents to the trainer a few weeks before the workshop (eg, abstract, key words…)
Number of places: Maximum 8 participants, mandatory registration (see on the right panel)
Selection: Based on pre-requirement conditions and eligibility to the call, number of places and registered participants, if need be, balance of disciplines, diversity aspects (equal opportunities), etc.

At Aix Marseille, extensive grant preparation support is offered by specialized staff at the Mission Europe pour la Recherche (MER), the newly established EU grants office for Aix Marseille Université, CNRS, Inserm and IRD, together with the ERC National Contact Point.

These events are organised as part on the CERCLe, to support ERC applicants wanting to apply to one of our research institutes.
